Hmmm... well, that depends, I guess, the question is rather general.

As a matter of formal social control, I think that barriers in the way of love allow for a kind of social control...like with Claudius.


On a personal level, barriers to love are probably temporary barriers to make certain that the powerful forces wanting to sweep us away are actually love, and not some other powerful, misleading facsimile force that can do damage.

If true love is dangerous to those who are false (e.g.Claudius), false love is even more dangerous to those who are true.

Makes me wonder what some people will be called upon to suffer in order to over-come restrictions of love and marriage that exist today.
