So here we come to the end of Christmas, after the sun sets this evening, Epiphany will begin. This was once known as as Twelfth Night. Long ago, the people could get pretty crazy (think Mardi Gras). This has been a blogging adventure, posting each day of Christmas!
Celebrations once occurred all during Christmas, including one called, back then, the Feast of Fools in which the order of the world was turned upside down. This party had fools pretending to be kings and all sorts of people taking on roles quite the opposite of their true character. There is even a play by Shakespeare, showing us how this occurred. In this Bizzaro world of opposites, I see a deeper, Christian message.
The old Feast of Fools can instruct us that Christmas celebrates nothing other than a world turned upside down in which God becomes man in order that man might partake of His Divine Nature. Now that is a reason to party!
Is Feast of Fools anyway related to Boxing Day?
