There are many needs that crowd our lives, and I have never posted a direct appeal here before,
but this time, I feel I must - hopefully moved by mercy if not by God's Spirit.
Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington, OK has made an apeal to all Oklahoma churches, to make them aware of an urgent need.
Indigent men who are incarcerated in the center are in need of fans. There is no air conditioning, and temperatures in the cells are hovering around 90 degrees at night and are much higher during the day. The fans cost about $23-24 each, and they need 70 more. If you would like to help with this need, you can mail a check to:
Chaplain Ron Grant
Joseph Harp Correctional Center
P O Box 548, Lexington, OK 73051
Make checks payable to: BOJC (stands for Body of Jesus Christ).
Lord Jesus Christ, for our sake You were condemned as a criminal: Visit this prison with Your pity and judgment. Remember all prisoners, and bring the guilty to repentance and amendment of life according to Your will, and give them hope for their future. When any are held unjustly, bring them release; forgive us, and teach us to improve our justice. Remember all those who work in these institutions; esp. Chaplin Ron Grant; keep them humane and compassionate; and save them from becoming brutal or callous. And since what we do for those in prison, O Lord, we do for You, constrain us to improve their lot. All this we ask for Your mercy's sake. Amen.
I've sent a check, but you might think that if the state is going to incarcerate prisoners, then the state should be providing for their welfare...
