that makes sense. the number 12 is used a few times in the new testament; so it would make sense if the purpose of Christ was to restore Israel then 12 would be the proper use of imagery.

That is an interesting question. A friend of mine asked if there was a hiring freeze or something. I suspect it has more to do with the imagery of refounding Israel (the Church) with 12 new tribes, to replace the old 12. Perhaps a theologian can help us out.

I find it very interesting that the apostles went through all that trouble of deciding between the two and then we never hear from him again.
Would you mind, at the risk of speculating, telling me why they had to have only twelve? 13 isn't as unlucky as people think.
