Was there ever a Christ follower more of an example than Francis was? He so ordered his life around the radical nature of the Gospel that he literally changed the world. He once went to the Holy Land to preach to the Moslems there. While witnessing to the Sultan, he offered to walk into a great bonfire to prove his faith to the Sultan. While that was not required of him, his whole life was more dedicated to the principles of Christ than most people I can think of, especially myself.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, make us instruments of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that we may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we
are born to eternal life. Amen.

Thank you for this my friend.
I'm in the middle of Donal Spoto's "The Reluctant Saint" -- my favorite bio of St. Francis. I wish I were as brave & full of faith in the words of my Saviour as was St. Francis. There are times that I long to throw out what I have & go live communally with the street people of Houston and then I talk myself out of it.
Blessings to you for this post and for your words in general.
Peace.
